And you're wondering that because...
1. You typed a bunch of random letters into your browser and landed here.
2. This page was left open in an internet café. (Those still exist, right? Please make sure the previous user logged out of Facebook.)
3. You heard that The Martin Agency is recruiting people for some sort of work situation and navigated to this site to learn more.
Whatever the reason (hopefully it’s #3) we’re cool with it, because now you’re here and we can tell you that Marty isn’t a who at all but rather a what.
Marty is mutually beneficial for both of us. “A win/win?” you ask. “For how?!”
Well, for you it's great because it brings you into our office for eight weeks to work with us like a real full-time employee, working on real brands, real campaigns, getting real feedback and probably selling real ideas. And it's great for us because we want to want to hire you. And this very program has been the jump-off point for some of our most talented talent.
So, dive right in and apply today. They say the road to a career in advertising starts with a single visit to a website on the internet. Yep. That’s something they definitely say.
“Marty was an amazing experience. I had a support system of mentors, teammates and dogs that allowed me to take creative risks and not be afraid to fail. I like yams.”
Molly Burke — Marty 2017 — Now Junior Copywriter at The Martin Agency
"Being surrounded by and mentored by such brilliant people inspired me to work as hard as I could so I could make it back here as a full-time planner to learn and grow in the hopes of being half-as great as them."
Cecelia Parrish – Marty 2014 – Now Senior Strategic Planner at The Martin Agency
Regardless of discipline, your main job at Marty will be to deliver new, culturally relevant perspectives and ideas that none of the big shots currently working here would come close to considering. (We hope they don’t read this. Hopefully they don’t walk into the same internet café you’re in.)
Not only can you come up with attention-grabbing concepts, but you can bring them to life visually with top-notch design. Your work looks award winning, but the ideas, strategy and insights behind them are even more praiseworthy. You make your writing partner’s words look even better and give experience designers a visual edge. Your lucky numbers are 17, 18 and 1,006.
You can come up with killer concepts and then bring them to life with great writing on everything from T-shirts to tweets to heart-stirring manifestos. While your words are highly crafted, the ideas, strategy and insights behind them are what really stand out. You take your art director’s visuals to another level and help experience designers find the words to make their vision visionary. The card you picked was the 7 of diamonds.
As an experience designer, you love tackling the tough problems. You are a storyteller with empathy for your audience. You thrive when collaborating with a team to turn concepts and ideas into products and experiences that people love. Your toolkit is scrappy and varied, from sketching to making usable prototypes. You’re probably a Virgo. But don’t have to be.
You have a passion for animation. You can prototype and solve challenging design problems and execute functional, compelling and thoughtful animated visual narratives. You have experience with 3D programs, design, and motion and might even be proficient in video, music, sound and visual effects programs. You combine the latest trends and feedback to develop new techniques that produce fresh, new media. Your third eye chakra is balanced.
You’re good at solving problems with design across a wide range of functions. You’re definitely proficient in Photoshop and Illustrator and maybe even proficient in 3D and motion programs. And you stay up on the latest trends in web and social media design. You also had a weird dream last night.
You’re a maker, thinker, investigator and storyteller. You’re curious about people, culture and brands, and crafty about how you bring what you learn to life. You’re no stranger to a killer Keynote presentation, get down and dirty to cut videos, and can make whatever you need to get the best creative product out of your team. You were born during a full moon.
You can juggle a bajillion balls at once and make sure everyone else on your team is getting their juggling done as well. You are self-motivated yet collaborative with exceptional time management, communication and problem-solving skills. You’ll think through business solutions, field feedback, and collaborate with all your fellow Martyers and keep them on task. You use a lot of acronyms.
You’re a DIY-er who is driven by your need to create. You write/shoot/build/design/edit by any means necessary, yet you’re always looking to sharpen your skills and expand your knowledge. You get inspired by both beautiful photos and videos as much as you do by weirdo meme accounts on Instagram. And when Vine went away you were legitimately bummed out for a little while but probably still got over it pretty quickly. It’s ok. We were too.
You see something cool in a sci-fi movie and then figure out how to do it in real life, but better. So, you may be the next Elon Musk. But, before you go off saving the world and making billions, how about spending some time honing your design taste and code-writing skills, and dreaming bigger dreams at Martin? After all, it’s where Elon Musk got started. Wait, we’re being told that’s not true at all.
"I worked amidst some of the most creative people in the world. I used to follow their work, even before I met them or knew who they were. And then I finally met them. Super motivating."
Rushil Nadkarni — Marty 2015 — Now Art Director at The Martin Agency
"Marty helped me turn an internship into a full-time position at an agency that’s created industry disruption in so many different categories. It allowed me to grow as both a professional and person. I can’t imagine being anywhere else."
Kendall Gardiner — Marty 2017 — Now Account Coordinator at The Martin Agency
Oh, you’re so going to love this: It doesn’t cost you anything. In fact, we pay you.
Probably. We have good relationships with many educational institutions, so ask whoever is in charge of those types of things at yours.
First, bad grammar. Second, if you’re accepted but you can't stay the whole time, we can try to work something out with it. Darnit. Now we’re bad grammar.
You’ve got a tent, right? Just kidding. But seriously housing is on you to both find and pay for. Fortunately, this a college town full of apartments with many rooms available. Yes, some of those rooms may have tapestries on their walls but we’re confident you can find something livable that fits your budget.
Company cars! Just kidding, again. Wow, this is easy. Richmond has a bus system and we have car parking near the agency. Also, we have bike parking right at the agency and if you ride a hoverboard that’s cool, too, and we respect it.
Yup. And we’ve got GWAR to thank for all of it.
Absolutely not. If you want to make amazing work, we want you. And if you just graduated this is a perfect next step.

If you need to talk to a real person, call Marty Ritter at 804.698.8428.
(Are the names of this program and the person you have to contact both Marty? Yes. But we assure you that it’s not some elaborate Marty-centric conspiracy. It’s just a crazy coincidence where Marty’s parents and The Martin Agency planned this all out decades ago with an elaborate Marty-centric conspiracy. Good Marty to you.)
"Marty helped me identify what skills needed sharpening. Not only was I able to work on remarkable local and national cause-based projects, but I also had the opportunity to be a part of the planning process on several A-list brands."
Luke Divita — Marty 2015 — Now UX Insights Specialist at The Martin Agency
